Research Interests: Information Theory, Coding Theory, Data Compression and Storage, Network Coding, Combinatorics, and Applied Probability Theory.

Dr. Zhang received his Habilitation in Mathematics in 1988 at Bielefeld University. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, and joined USC in August 1988.

Full-time positions: Nan'kai University, Tianjin, 1981-1982; Bielefeld University, Bielefeld, Germany, 1986-1988; University of Southern California, 1988-.
